is pleased to introduce its first collection of exclusive designs
by internationally recognized artists Aziz + Cucher.
Aziz
+ Cucher have
created 9 striking designs which blend motifs from nature with
a techno sensibility, bringing a sophisticated contemporary look
in which intricate pattern and exquisite color interact. The
artists have married their digital aesthetic with the ancient
craft of Tibetan rug weaving, pushing traditional carpet design
to a new level.
Considered
pioneers in the field of digital photography, Aziz
+ Cucher have
a long creative career that spans a range of media. After a decade
of producing conceptually-driven work that represented the human
body in an age of rapid technological change, their work, in 2003,
took a decidedly celebratory turn, reveling in the expanded visual
possibilities of digital media and resulting in works which represent
Nature with startling complexity. They
have expertly arrived at their own visual language, in which photographic
and painterly techniques are blended together to create a dynamic
techno-pointillism. It is this unique language and this very sophisticated
sensibility which they bring now to the medium of hand-knotted
carpets.
Anthony
Aziz and Sammy Cucher have been working as a collaborative
art team since 1991. Their photography, digital art and video installations
have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Hayward Gallery
in London, The New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the
Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, and the National
Gallery of Berlin.
Their
work is held in numerous private and public collections,
including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco
Museum of Modern Art, the FNAC in Paris, the National
Gallery of Australia, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid,
and the Musee de L"Elysee in Switzerland.
As
faculty members at Parsons, The New School for Design in
New York, they are committed to investigating and expanding
the relationship between the fine arts and applied design
through innovation and experimentation with new materials
and new technologies.
